MP3 blog aggregator Hype Machine launched a new microsite today called the Music Blog Zeitgeist. There you can listen, for free, to entire albums from the most blogged-about musicians of 2008. Bringing together a whole host of different technologies to create one experience, the site is beautiful and a lot of fun to navigate.

Numa mescla de immemm, musebin (1 line reviews), “shows” sobre música, auxiliado com conteúdo sob creative commons.

Já conhecia o Immemm e o musebin mas isto é… prático :)

Contra-ataque às leis autorais

A questão da constitucionalidade de certas leis federais americanas, que permitem certos comportamentos por parte das indústrias que dependem dos direitos de autor (leis e comportamentos que em certa medida a Europa tem importado para alguns países, embora com relativamente pouco sucesso – pois não é consentido pelos governos ou pelos tribunais), tem sido (cada vez mais) levantada e pode ter ganho bastante força com este professor de Harvard e, neste caso, defensor em tribunal.

A Harvard Law School professor has launched a constitutional assault against a federal copyright law at the heart of the industry’s aggressive strategy, which has wrung payments from thousands of song-swappers since 2003.

The professor, Charles Nesson, has come to the defense of a Boston University graduate student targeted in one of the music industry’s lawsuits. By taking on the case, Nesson hopes to challenge the basis for the suit, and all others like it.

Nesson argues that the Digital Theft Deterrence and Copyright Damages Improvement Act of 1999 is unconstitutional because it effectively lets a private group – the Recording Industry Association of America, or RIAA – carry out civil enforcement of a criminal law. He also says the music industry group abused the legal process by brandishing the prospects of lengthy and costly lawsuits in an effort to intimidate people into settling cases out of court.

Nesson is best known for defending the man who leaked the Pentagon Papers and for consulting on the case against chemical companies that was depicted in the film “A Civil Action.” His challenge against the music labels, made in U.S. District Court in Boston, is one of the most determined attempts to derail the industry’s flurry of litigation.

This music video directed by OneInThree for ‘Wild Beasts’ second single of their debut album ‘Limbo Panto’ is a mesmerising & hypnotic tour de force. It pioneers an amazing mind bending visual technique called the ‘Droste Effect‘ which is based on an uncompleted lithograph that Escher made in 1956. The maths behind the lithograph was so complicated that Escher was unable to finish the centre of the picture and so left it blank. OneInThree developed the technique from Josh Sommers code so that it could be applied to moving images. OneInThree did all the VFX themselves apart from a grade & online at The Mill .
